This short overnight tour is a great chance to get out of the capital and see some wildlife in the Awash National Park – located 225 km east of Addis Ababa.

The park, which takes its name from the Awash River, covers an area of 827 square kilometers and stretches around 30km east to west and a little less from north to south. Once you arrive in the park, you will have two short game drives which will give you a chance to see the local wildlife, such as oryx, baboons, kudu, warthogs, gazelles and colubus monkeys.

Itineraries

Day 1

ADDIS ABABA / AWASH NATIONAL PARK

Early morning, depart Addis Ababa, driving south through the Rift Valley, then east to the Awash National Park. Lunch in the park, followed by some rest time. In the afternoon, take a short game drive through the Ilala Sala Plain in the southern part of the Park. This offers a chance to see the local wildlife, such as oryx, baboons, kudu, warthogs, gazelles and colubus monkeys. There will also be a opportunity to visit the Awash River Falls – a water fall described as a “scaled-down version of Victoria Falls”.

Day 2

AWASH NATIONAL PARK / ADDIS ABABA

Rise early and take another short game drive around the park. This is a good opportunity to see the park come to life in the morning time. After the game drive, depart the Awash National Park and head towards Addis Ababa. On route, take a slight detour to refresh at the Sodere complex of natural hot spring waters. After lunch, continue on the journey back to Addis Ababa.
